What is the importance of a number?
The online definition I found says that a number is a arithmetical value, expressed by a word, symbol, or figure, representing a particular quantity and used in counting and making calculations and for showing order in a series or for identification.
For Paul and Abby Liu of Jersey City the number 108A is their address. They commissioned this sign to mount on their front door. As you can see from the painting below this house is a two family dwelling and the doors are exactly the same. The Liu’s thought it was time to end the endless confusion over which door was theirs, so they asked if I would paint a sign which would identify their half of this 2 family house. Evidently they have had all kinds of miss placed mail, food deliveries and unexpected guests. They never knew who might be knocking at their door. Because I lived in Jersey City for 15 years I could only imagine the bazaar and unusual situations that might arise with no address numbers on a family home like this one. Creating this piece for them just made me smile. Thank You Paul and Abby.
