Do you have a special celebration coming up this summer?
The last two weeks I have been working on some very special gifts that people commissioned me to create. The first one is of a house portrait / cutout. A friend of mine asked me to paint the house she and her husband have lived in since they got married. She wanted to present it to him on their 40th wedding anniversary which was July 9th. They love this house but in a year they have plans to move to their new home which is being built. My friend wanted to have the painting as away to remember their lives together in this beautiful home where they raised their 4 children, and entertained friends. This house was built in the middle of the 1800s and on one occasion Mrs. George Armstrong Custer had tea here.
221 Adams St. Acrylic on wood.

The second commission I just completed is a wedding gift for my landlady’s nephew and his wife to be. Their wedding is this weekend, July 23. My landlady has a great sense of humor and loves art. She asked if I would create a painting similar to The Birth of Venus by Florentine painter Botticelli and place the betrothed in the painting. She wanted me to show her nephew proposing to his girl friend who was to be Venus. Painting portraits of real people is not something I do easily or well but I think I captured a likeness of this happy couple. Below you will see a photo of the first stages of the drawing and the painting. The last photo is of the original masterpiece by Botticelli.
