To Love And To Cherish
Acrylic on Wood
14 x 18
In the First week of February I received a request, from Jeffery Newton of Stamford Connecticut for a special painting to mark his 10th wedding anniversary. Jeff wanted to surprise his wife Meg with a unique gift that would mark their first 10 years of marriage. He shared with me that they loved to dance while dating in NYC as well as visiting the Chrysler Building. Together Jeff and I discussed several possibilities that the painting could take. Soon it became clear to me how I might compose the painting with Jeff and Meg as the central figures. I envisioned them dancing on a boardwalk in front of an evening New York skyline. Jeff suggested the disco clothes and the LP record behind them. As you can see I included some of the historic NY buildings and the Brooklyn Bridge. Can you find the Chrysler Building in the painting? The figures of Jeff and Meg and the outline of the marque are all one piece of wood that was cut out and mounted onto the 14W x 18H x 2D panel box. This gives the painting a 3 dimensional element. Best wishes to you Meg and Jeffery as you journey together towards another 10 grace filled years of marriage. Keep on dancing.
April Give Away – Looking Forward

Yes, I can see the Chrysler Building! I look forward to daffodils. I like to visit Daffodil Hill at the NY Botanical Garden when I can, though it’s not happening this year.
Jan the daffodils are very slow this year. Perhaps they will be giants when they appear.
I’m looking forward to planting my tomatoes and filling my pond listening to the frogs coming back and singing the song of their people.Opening the windows and watching the cats sun themselves in the sunbeams
Chris, I never thought about frogs coming back and singing. Thank you.
Those are the colors in my bedroom and would look great there. I would also consider another room as it is so beautiful I would not want to hide it away.
Myrnette I am sure this piece would go anywhere. The blues and greens against the white are very striking.
What a fabulous NYC scene and anniversary gift! I’m looking forward to juicy garden strawberries, the kind that take me back to my childhood when I stood in my grandpa’s giant strawberry patch picking and eating those delicious red gems. I’ve always had allergies in June, but each berry was worth the itchy eyes and runny nose! Best June dessert: fresh sliced berries over homemade vanilla ice cream.
Marie, You get 5 stars for eating strawberries and enduring the allergies. I agree berries on ice cream is the best.
I look forward to spring because I get a break for at least a few months from SHOVELING SNOW. I much prefer mowing the lawn!!
I agree 100% with you Janet.
I would just like to see more sunshine and less snow (it snowed here yesterday). I want fewer gray days. I drive along the Charles River. When it’s warmish, the people on all the crew teams look happier. Me too.
Amen Sister. Gray is the worst.
What a beautiful anniversary gift—sure to be an heirloom.
As far as spring goes, we in New Hampshire are in the same boat as you are in Montana! Yes, it snowed again today. And yet the hopeful crocuses are pushing up. I look forward to seeing my garden.
Maundy thank goodness for crocuses. I know you have been as hard hit as we have. Today was truly our first day of sunshine and 60 degrees. Thanks for your post and your name is in the drawing.
I love the subway tiles
On the side of Meg and Jeff’s Anniversary momento!
For spring I just want to be able to wear sandals to work again. I’m way over socks and shoes.
Emily. Meg and Jeff’s piece is so NYC don’t you think? I agree sandals are long over due and I can’t wait. Thanks for your input it means a lot.
I’m looking forward to purging my house, sunshine, finishing projects and vacations!
Joanie, I hear you on the need to purge. I’m in the middle of it right now. What a job.
Spring is slow to arrive in NC too! Daffodils are here, azaleas have bloomed. We are just waiting for weather above 60!
Maggie, I miss azaleas and their vibrant colors. Hope you warm up soon.
The colors of spring bring me a great deal of pleasure. I’m a watercolor artist and enjoying finding special ways to interpret the colors of spring onto my papers.
I have looked forward to the places in Charlottesville where I can see white dogwood, redbuds, and yellow forsythia all at once. Spring was never my favorite month until I moved here.
Alison so glad for your post. Spring is Mother Natures best show of Gods creativity. Well maybe fall is a second best for sure spring is a marvel.
I love all the seasons in Colorado but I especially look forward to spring when I can get out and walk any time of day and into the evening because of the time change. In the summer it can be too hot to walk in the middle of the day, and in the winter it can be too cold any time of day. It also feels like Colorado Springs is gearing up for all the festivities of summer in the spring and there is anticipation in that.
Ann I know what you mean about being able to walk any time. I’ve been trying to walk everyday just because it is so delightful this time of year.
I’m looking forward to trail running, long evening walks, hiking Mount Helena, and camping!
Hi Jen Yes Mt. Helena here we come. Thanks for your post. I know you love abstracts.
Love how incredibly peaceful the colors in the piece are!
I most look forward to the endless hours playing around in the flower garden—planting, watching new tendrils poking out of the ground, weeding—so therapeutic for me.
I love all the bright colors you use!
