As 2015 has begun to unfold I have had the opportunity to make new art friends as well as experience new art venues.
A few patrons who stopped by my art show in November asked if I could teach them how to make paper clay birds. I immediately said yes and set a date for the workshop in January. Three of the 4 women work at Birds and Beasley’s Art Gallery here in Helena where I sell my art work. The women are all avid bird lovers and were excellent students for this challenging class. I think I had the most fun simply because I spent 2 Sundays for 4 hours laughing and swapping stories with very energetic and creative people. What a gift it was for me.

The other person I met in late January is Earl Fred. He is a young 81 year old who took up the art of Intarsia just 4 years ago. Intarsia is a mosaic of wood fitted and glued into a wooden support popular in 15th century Italy for decoration. His daughter, Karen Fred, works out with me every morning at the gym. Karen started telling me about her father and his beautiful wooden art and I finally said, “Karen I have got to meet your dad”. So I did and wow was I in heaven talking to Earl and seeing his studio. He is the only artist I have met who has a scroll saw like mine and uses it to make his art. Not only was I impressed with Earl’s art but his wealth of knowledge about wood. I loved talking to him and seeing his studio. He was kind to let me take photos to post here but Fred is a bit camera shy.
Here in my art studio I have been busy creating paintings, paper clay birds, Easter Chicks and Easter Eggs.
