Art with meaning is one of the highest goals an artist strives to reach. To reach that goal an artist needs to create from their inner soul and heart. Hopefully this process will not only hold meaning for the artist but also for the viewer. As an artist knowing my work has touched another persons heart is the best reward I can receive. A commissioned piece of art holds a greater possibility of reaching this goal. I have had many such commissions requests over the years and below is a photo of my latest commission.
My good friends Mike Shields and Opal Winebrenner of Helena MT ordered a special art piece to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. Mike and Opal grew up in Montana and were married on August 16, 1980 at Legendary Lodge on Salmon Lake MT. They both worked in state government here in Helena and then in the federal government in Washington DC. They wanted this special piece to commemorate their 40 years together, their wedding at legendary Lodge, the state and federal offices where they worked, a list of their favorite places and adventures, and of course their 3 dogs, Nietzsche, Libby and Rowdy. Thank You Mike and Opal for this opportunity to create meaningful art for you. Congratulations on your 40 years of marriage and your friendship. May there be many years ahead for you both.
This is a side view showing the 2 layers of wood I cut out for this piece to create what I call a painted relief. I took this while the painting was in progress. In the final painting the white building with a red roof is gone to allow room for another sign post and tree..
