This painting is most well know for it’s scandalous history. It was confiscated by the Nazis  during their occupation of Austria. After the war there was a long dispute between the Bauer family and the Austrian government as to the rightful owner ship.

If you are in the NYC area you can see this beautiful painting up close and personal at the Neue Galerie in New York City.

Woman in Gold is a wonderful  2015 movie about the history of the painting starring Helen Mirren. You can see The trailer here
