This highly textured painting was inspired from a photo I took on my drive down to Salt Lake City in November. There are some beautiful rugged rock formations along Interstate 15. They are massive and full of character and beauty both of which can stir the human imagination. This is the first painting in my series of abstract mountain paintings.

I have framed the painting in a antique frame that I found here in Helena this fall. In fact I have been collecting old frames and all 10 of my new abstracts will be placed in one. The more beat up and rugged the frame the better so they fit the character of these rugged and beautiful Rockie Mountains.

Look at all that wear and tear…… What beauty! it feels right to reuse old frames. All the wood panels I’m painting on are pieces I have bought from the Habitat for Humanity Restore here in Helena. I’m working hard to make art from materials that can be reused. Just one way artists can be more green.
