Okay I admit I have an obsession with the moon. You just have to see how it shines here in Helena under the Big Sky. There must be a million ways to paint the moon. It is a fantastic subject as I can interpret it in an array of color, sizes, settings and shapes. My latest moon painting, Moon Rising, depicts the moon rising over the mountains with it’s gentle glow creating a myriad of colors in the night sky speckled with stars. It is a small acrylic painting which measures 8″ x 9″ and comes ready to hang.If you would like to purchase it you can do so by clicking the link below the photo and if you have any questions please contact me. 5. Midnight Blue

    January 27, 2013 | Author: Maureen L. White | Category: Uncategorized | Tags: , , , , , , , , , | Comments (0)

I have found living in Helena has made me more aware of the natural environment. Not only is the landscape filled with high mountains and lush valleys but the sky is just as spectacular with it’s luminous clouds showing off brilliant sunsets and bright sunrises. However my favorite is the massive  night sky with the vast expanse of space speckled with stars and showcasing the glorious moon. You can view this magnificent scene this weekend as the January full moon

Below are photos of my most recent full moon painting, Midnight Blue. I have layered multiple coats of transparent paint allowing a high degree of luminosity around the moon. The blues range from midnight blue to azure blue as the light of the moon lightens the midnight sky and gently rolls across the foot hills of the Rockies. The clouds circling around the moon have been laced with  subtle shades of pink and oranges. Midnight Blue measures 10 x 24 inches,  comes ready to hang and is painted on quarter inch wood with a 3/4 inch hanging block mounted on the back  allowing the painting to stand out from the wall.

  6. January Cold Brings Art and Memories

    January 15, 2013 | Author: Maureen L. White | Category: Uncategorized | Tags: , , , , , , , , , | Comments (0)

I have been cloistered in my art studio due to the freezing January temperatures along with 12 to 15 inches of snow. I am not complaining as it is a normal January in Montana. I actually love this time of year as the cold days force me inside where I can clean, organize and work on commissions. One of my first commissions of the New Year was this small Victorian house in one of Helena’s oldest neighborhoods. The owner is about 90 years old and recently moved to an assisted living apartment . This house was her home all of her married life a good 50 years plus.  Her  move needless to say was an emotional one. The realtor from Big Sky Brokers who sold her house commissioned me to make a painting of the house. She wanted to give it to the woman as a thank you and a remembrance of her home of so many years. She will be able to hang it in her new apartment and hopefully cherish the many days she lived in such a beautiful space. I was thrilled to make it for her. It is commissions like these that bring me a great deal of satisfaction and joy as an artist. Below are some photos of the Fresh January snow outside my art studio and the painting of the house which has been cutout of wood and measures 10″h x 15″w

  7. Hopes and Dreams for 2013

    January 2, 2013 | Author: Maureen L. White | Category: Uncategorized | Tags: , , , , , , , , | Comments (0)

Happy New Year Everyone. I hope that 2013 is a prosperous and healthy year for all of you.I know I have been looking forward to this new year as I plan how to make more of my hopes and dreams become a reality. My list is growing and my enthusiasm is high. However I know that  I need to now trim my list and keep only those goals that are most attainable and are most relevant to my needs. Goal setting is something I have always enjoyed and I have learned that if I keep my list to a minimum of 5 then by years end if I have accomplished three of the 5 goals then I can say, “It has been a good year”.One goal I have is to increase my presence on the Internet through this blog, my Face Book Page, Urban Pastures Art  , Pinterest and my website, UrbanPasturesArt.com. You can follow me in all of these arenas to view my current art work and escapades. If you haven’t signed up for my monthly newsletter yet and would like to, just fill out the form in the sidebar to the right.  The second goal I have  is to post more photos and videos of my work for you to view online.

Below is my first art piece of 2013. This is a three dimensional wood cut relief. The tree and the birds have been coutout and mounted on a 8″ x 12″ wood box panel. This painting is available for purchase at my website, Urban Pastures Art, under the tab Available Works, Wood Cut Relief
